Move for Your Mind Initiative

Through their Move for Your Mind Initiative they are seeking to strengthen community mental wellbeing by combining physical activity, mindfulness, and social connection.

What The Project Seeks to Achieve

The Willingboro Department of Recreation’s “Move for Your Mind” Initiative seeks to strengthen community mental wellbeing by combining physical activity, mindfulness, and social connection in welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces. Through inclusive recreation programs, community-wide challenges, and informational workshops, the project aims to reduce stress, increase physical activity, and foster a stronger sense of belonging and resilience among participants.

About The Project

The Move for Your Mind Initiative is a community-focused recreation and wellness project designed to support both physical and mental health through structured, group-based programming. By activating local indoor and outdoor spaces, the initiative creates opportunities for residents to engage in movement, practice mindfulness, and connect socially in ways that are accessible, supportive, and sustainable.

The project features two six-week, community-wide activity challenges supported by an activity-tracking app. Each challenge offers a rotating schedule of weekly programs that pair physical exercise with mindfulness techniques and encourage reflection and conversation. These programs will be led by contracted instructors and facilitators to ensure quality, safety, and consistency.

In addition to weekly movement offerings, the initiative includes monthly workshops. These workshops blend light physical activity with short educational sessions on the mental health benefits of exercise, delivered in partnership with local therapists, universities, or wellness professionals. Together, these components reinforce the connection between physical activity, stress reduction, and emotional wellbeing.

By centering wellness within public recreation spaces, Move for Your Mind increases equitable access to mental health-supportive activities, reduces social isolation, and encourages long-term healthy habits. The initiative also models how parks and recreation departments can serve as vital public health partners who support resilient, connected, and healthier communities.
